A typical weekend in Cartagena!
Cartagena, founded in 1533, is considered to be one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Americas. It’s located on the Caribbean sea and was once the gateway to the Spanish empire in the New World. The old walled quarter of the city has shady plazas, cobblestone streets, ruined forts, lovely churches and old convents.
Cartagena
A delightful blend of Colonial architecture and contemporary style set in the most exclusive area of the beautiful walled city of Cartagena, on the northern coast of Colombia. Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias effortlessly combines comfort and sophistication. Enjoy the typical food of Cartagena in the excellent restaurant or relax on the rooftop terrace at the infinity pool or the sky bar.
Cartagena City & Walking Tour (Half Day)
In 1984 Cartagena was declared a World Culture Heritage by the UNESCO. The city combines an impressive, modern and colonial architecture created by the Spanish. It preserves the past and the memories of the struggles of that time. During your city tour you will visit two monuments which are of great historical value outside the old city. San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress built to defend the city. The monastery and the church of La Candelaria on the hill de La Pope are outstanding examples of religious and colonial architecture.
Drum Workshop & Canoe Tour through mangroves of “La Boquilla” (Full Day)
Our drum workshop will take you to the magical nearby afro town of La Boquilla, where the local culture bubbles everywhere. Enjoy a day trip that includes transportation to and from La Boquilla, a drum class in the culture house of La Boquilla, a session of hands on drum therapy, and typical fresh fish lunch at Restaurant Donde Angel. In “La Boquilla”, an Afro- Cartagena village of fishermen is where you will also go through an ethno- touristic walk, which will allow you to learn more about the history of this fishing village, dating back more than 250 years, with cultural market traditions and with the joy that characterizes the people of the Colombian Caribbean coast. This ethno- touristic tour is a walk through the streets, cobbled and sandy alleys, where you will witness the life of this afro village of fishermen. In the afternoon you will have the chance to enjoy an amazing trip in a wooden canoe with a local captain, through the natural mangrove tunnels (The Love, The Happiness and Remember tunnels) in the Cienaga de Juan Polo Swamp. It was a great trip. I would do it again.
Diane was great and very helpful. First time to golf in Europe (Ireland) and Diane and her team, including Michael were very helpful. The planning for where to stay and where to play is difficult if you have never been where you are going to play. Diane and her team were very helpful to figure that out for us.
I would like to not drive as much between the place we stay and where we golf next time. That probably would mean staying at one more location. I had wanted to only stay at 2 locations so I think we ended up driving more.
